From the preface: "April 4th, 1999 it was 50 years since the signing of the Atlantic Treaty in Washington, DC. . . . Norwegian Aviation Museum holds a special interest in the period during which the NATO alliance has had the greater part of it's (sic) existence, and which indeed was to be the reason behind it's (sic) foundation: The Cold War. The Royal Norwegian Ministry of Defence, on behalf of the Norwegian government, therefore gave the Aviation Museum the task of hosting a conference and creating an exhibition with the aim of marking the occasion of the 50th anniversary by focusing on the period of the Cold War."
